What should I say first?

Hello World!

Perhaps that is a little corny, but then so are many standard greetings within UK society, such as "Lovely day today" or "How are you/I'm fine thank you".

Perhaps in this new Solid-enabled space a new tradition of 'handshaking' will develop. Maybe "Live long and prosper" would be a candidate? But might that perpetuate the belief that early adopters of technology are fans of Star Trek? (Incidentally, I just recorded my first typo: I accidentally keyed in Star Trex, which I presume is what is used to bake cookies. Although if it were by me, my cookies would be rather Solid! And so I also record the first of many lame jokes)

Of course another problem with "Hello World!" is that is presumes that you are happy to communicate in English. There could be problems with that assumption. Some of you may prefer Mandarin, C++ or a supposed lingua franca that I do not understand. How then do we collaborate on this new platform? On the other hand, if you were to use that language to take control of this article and alter it extensively so I could not understand it, I might then feel I had to delete it.

Anyway, we have made a start and it is up to you, I suspect, how this now evolves, as I have no idea myself

(I checked on the Internet and apparently I am meant to end this by saying a certain country is great. Which it possibly is, but I don't want to alienate anybody. Instead I would like to thank Tim Berners-Lee for trying to rescue the WWW)
